Welcome back to the Scale Your Small Business Podcast with your host, Jillian Flodstrom. In today’s episode, Jillian is going to give a window into a mistake that was a made, how it was addressed, what was learned, and how she and her team came out better than before.

Mistakes happen, and they can sneak up on you. In fact, this mistake is related to this very podcast. We were VERY far ahead schedule-wise, but because of a breakdown in communication and a plethora of moving pieces, an episode fell through the cracks. But, how did we develop a system to solve this problem?

The answer is checks and balances. Start at square one, especially when there are lots of parts coming together, and create a color-coded flowchart. By mapping out step-by-step each aspect of the project, it creates an opportunity for a team member to flag when something’s off track so it can be corrected ASAP.

By creating a flowchart like this, it becomes a living, breathing part of your project. You’re able to adjust when people are on vacation, when people are working ahead, and when things need to be caught up before a deadline.

Like any new process, it’ll take some tweaking to help everything fall into place. But in the end, the team is better for it!
